Valdis Gavars

I care about problems more than solutions.

If a solution solves the problem — great. Forget the problem, forget the solution, move to the next one. That's the goal. It very rarely goes that way. The problem grows, the solution needs maintenance, or you realize halfway through that you were solving the wrong problem entirely.

That's what I find interesting. Not the building itself, but figuring out what's actually worth building — and being honest when the answer is "not this."

I started out building software for a clinical laboratory — expert systems, automation, internal tools. The stakes were always high — software that had to work because people's health depended on it. Then COVID hit and amplified everything. Five years of that.

After the lab, I started VeeGLZ — a software development agency. Then started building Sensible Tools with Mikus Upmalis — a Shopify inventory forecasting app. Recently did a Mini MBA at SSE Riga to fill in some gaps on the business side.

I work with AI daily and write about it here — honestly, from experience, without the hype.

VeeGLZ — Software development agency. Working with agencies, dev companies, and direct clients on development projects, technical consultancy, and engineering oversight.

Sensible Tools — Shopify inventory forecasting app, built with Mikus Upmalis. Helping store owners stop losing sales to stockouts and stop tying up cash in overstock.

This blog — Where I write about engineering strategy, AI, and building things that work. Everything here comes from something I've actually experienced, built, or struggled with.
